Ahmad Murrar and Parker White Publish on Ethiopia and Eritrea Conflict, US Sanctions, and Regional Foreign Investment
Foley & Lardner LLP associates Ahmad Murrar and Parker White authored the WorldECR article, “Regional briefing: Eritrea, Ethiopia – and US Sanctions.”
The authors discuss the conflict between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, the failure to implement in full a peace agreement reached in November 2022, U.S. sanctions and restrictions in response to the conflict, and the implications of the peace deal for private investment in the region, particularly for the telecommunications and aviation industries.
“Several significant U.S. sanctions and restrictions on Ethiopia and Eritrea remain in place, as the peace deal has yet to be fully implemented,” the authors conclude. “However, foreign investment in newly liberalized sectors, such as telecommunications and aviation, has resumed at least in part.”
