Will AI "Kill" the Billable Hour?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming many industries, and the legal profession is no exception. However, it is unlikely that AI will completely replace the billable hour in the near future. Here are a few reasons why:

Eventually, AI will allow lawyers to focus on the tasks that they do best, such as providing clients with strategic advice and building relationships.
Aside from discovery, generative AI is likely to bring more automation to various additional areas, including knowledge management and legal research, among others. But for the many law firms already dealing with clients’ calls for AI-powered efficiency and competition from tech-savvy alternative legal service providers, these areas aren’t significant revenue drivers, and don’t entail the bulk of their billable hours.
