Foley & Lardner LLP partner Louis Lehot authored The Legal Intelligencer article, “Stablecoins vs. Bitcoin in 2026: Regulation, Realignment and the New Digital Asset Market Structure,” offering insights on the global digital asset ecosystem.
Lehot details three digital asset regulation developments that defined 2025, namely regulated stablecoins entering the financial mainstream, the establishment of greater clarity around market structure rules, and accelerating global regulatory harmonization.
Looking at 2026, Lehot identified growing enterprise adoption at scale and tokenization as trends to watch.
“Crypto is no longer a standalone industry, it is becoming a permanent layer of the global financial system,” he concludes. “I see 2026 as the inflection point when digital assets move decisively from the periphery to the core of financial innovation.”
