Jake May helps companies protect their inventions by prosecuting and obtaining patents around the world. He is equally effective in obtaining patents covering emerging technologies as he is in protecting incremental improvements to technologies that have been around for decades. Patents obtained by Jake protect advancements that are critical to his clients maintaining their competitive advantages.

Jake is skilled at identifying patentable distinctions and is forward looking with regard to obtaining enforceable claims that aren’t easily designed around. He has worked extensively with inventions used in oil and gas exploration and downhole products, such as drill bits — although his prosecution, counseling, and litigation experience spans a variety of technical fields, including software, electronics, and the mechanical arts.

Prior to law school, Jake was an engineer at Abbott Laboratories, where he learned to view engineering and technology advancements from a business perspective. Upon graduation, he served as Law Clerk to The Honorable John McBryde of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
