Partner Stephen Aschettino was quoted in a Payments Source article, “Merchants are Finally Warming Up to Surcharging,” on November 4, 2016. The article discussed merchants’ freedom to charge customers a premium for paying with credit card, a practice that has not caught on, but could be changing as more merchants are inquiring about surcharging. Aschettino explained, “it can take years for court decisions and class-action settlements to permeate through the media and eventually gain the attention of corporate executives.” He said while merchants may lower costs by switching processors or negotiating better fees, imposing surcharges is the low-hanging fruit.
