Inside Counsel
Partner Jonathan Israel was quoted in an Inside Counsel article, “NLRB Dismisses Representation Petition Regarding Northwestern Student Athletes,” on August 18, 2105. The article discussed the National Labor Relations Board decision to decline jurisdiction in the case involving Northwestern University student football players who wanted to be recognized as a union. Israel was quoted saying, “This is a surprising result from a progressive board… While Northwestern and other universities surely would have preferred a decision holding that student athletes are not employers under federal labor law, they are likely pleased with this no-decision, where the board looks like it wants no part of these proceedings, including the Regional Director’s decision.”
