Daily Business Review
Partner Jami Gekas was quoted in a Daily Business Review article published on July 8, 2014, titled “Jury Rules Against Miami Handbag Maker in Trademark Dispute.” The article examined the dispute between the firm’s client, Buccellati, a world-renowned Italian jeweler, and Laura Buccellati, the American granddaughter of its Italian founder, following the trademark victory secured on April 22, 2014, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Gekas was quoted saying, “Just because you are fortunate enough to have been born with a famous last name does not give you the right to use that name as a trademark if it will cause consumer confusion…Once you have confusion, an injunction is the order of the day.”
