Partner Lawrence Vernaglia was quoted in a CNBC.com article that was published on April 11, 2014, titled “Doc who ‘received’ $12M from Medicare: Not so fast.” The article discusses data recently released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on doctors who had received large reimbursements from the government-run Medicare program in 2012. It explains that in some states medical professionals who administer treatment under the technical authority of a physician are required to use that physician’s NPI number in billing Medicare, so the data may reflect use of someone’s NPI number at a higher rate. Vernaglia was quoted saying, “Just because somebody got paid a lot doesn’t mean they took home a lot.”
