The Houston Chronicle covered the 18th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition held on this date at the historic Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Twelve fourth- and fifth-grade elementary students competed in the event answering the question: "If Dr. King were speaking at a March on Washington today, what would he say?" Amari Venzor of Cornelius Elementary School was awarded first place.
