Texas Lawyer spoke with Gardere Government Affairs Practice Group Chair Kimberly A. Yelkin about the 83rd Legislative Session. When asked what was different about this session, Ms. Yelkin commented, "I found [it] very collaborative, and members were extremely willing to listen to our clients' concerns and suggest solutions. [It was] congenial and friendly. I think it had everything to do with the budget. When you are operating in a deficit everything else seems secondary. This time, members were much more willing to talk to you about things that weren't budget-related."
