Partner David Rosen will be a panelist on the Federal Circuit Bar Association’s (FCBA) remote presentation titled “Patents in the Time of COVID-19: How the Crisis is Shaping IP, Innovation, and Access to Medicine Now, and for the Future”. The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, May 7th at 11 a.m. EDT.

Rosen, along with the other panelists, will discuss how patents can affect the development and accessibility of medicines and tests during the current COVID-19 pandemic. While there are many ways to ensure broad access to medicines, some view IP and the creative uses of IP as crucial to enabling access. Others see IP as an obstacle and ask for limited enforceability of patents or compulsory licenses.

Panelists include:

  • Robert DeBerardine, Worldwide Vice President, Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, Johnson & Johnson
  • David Rosen, Partner, Foley & Lardner LLP
  • Corey Salsberg, VP, Global Head IP Affairs, Novartis
  • Hans Sauer, Deputy General Counsel, VP for IP, Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO)
