Senior Counsel Peter McLaughlin discussed trends in privacy and data security, including proposed Food and Drug Administration guidance for mobile medical applications as well as regulations from the European Commission that would provide data protection requirements across all European Union member countries. McLaughlin noted that a number of worldwide jurisdictions have created regulations on data protection, which may create challenges for lawyers who must make sense of the varying series of rules.
