Partner Carrie Hoffman Discusses the Americans With Disabilities Act with American Express

American Express spoke with Gardere Labor and Employment Partner Carrie B. Hoffman about the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's definition of the disabilities protected under the law. Last year, the EEOC released an expanded definition of the disabilities that, for the first time, specifically named cancer, diabetes, epilepsy and various mental disabilities.
According to Ms. Hoffman, "the EEOC has taken the relaxed definitions included in the law quite broadly. The EEOC's position is that everything constitutes a disability under the Americans With Disability Act," she said.
