Foley & Lardner LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Pedro Romano Fragoso Pires, a veteran foreign legal consultant, has joined the firm as a member of its Business Law Department.
With more than 25 years of legal experience, Fragoso Pires advises U.S. and foreign companies on business and general corporate matters between the U.S. and Brazil. He will be based in the firm’s Miami office.
Throughout his career, Fragoso Pires has coordinated and supervised numerous legal matters throughout Latin America, including mergers & acquisitions, infrastructure and general corporate matters, with a particular niche in the Brazilian market. For 20 years, he represented Brazilian and multinational oil companies (operators and service providers) on numerous issues, including employment and litigation, and has served as lead counsel and outside general counsel to U.S. and foreign companies seeking to do business in Brazil.
As a member of the firm’s Business Law Department, Fragoso Pires will enhance the firm’s ability to meet the unique business demands of both domestic and foreign companies while interpreting and staying ahead of the economic and regulatory trends impacting their industries.
“Pedro’s 25-plus years representing Fortune 50 multinational companies with respect to their Brazilian affairs make him an ideal fit for Foley, particularly given Brazil’s economic ascendency and our multinational clients’ interests in Latin America,” said Mary Leslie Smith, Managing Partner of Foley & Lardner’s Miami office. “Pedro will spearhead our clients’ Brazil-related corporate needs and equally so, our national platform will serve Brazilian corporations with their U.S. legal needs. Pedro’s addition to Foley’s Miami office will further our local abilities to address international matters, an attribute essential to any full-service law firm with a Miami office.”
Prior to joining Foley & Lardner, Fragoso Pires served as a Foreign Legal Consultant in DLA Piper’s Miami office and also was a Founding Partner at Lanna Ribeiro & Fragoso Pires – Advogados (LCCF – Advogados), a Brazil-based law firm with a service model focused on business law. He also previously served as chairman of the Energy Committee of an Iberoamerican alliance formed by several law firms.
Fragoso Pires earned his LL.M. in Comparative Law from the University of Miami and an LL.B. from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro School of Law. He also holds an LL.M. in Corporate Administrative Law from Candido Mendes University and has been ranked as a leader by Chambers and Partners. He is a native Portuguese speaker, fluent in English and is admitted to practice in Brazil.
