Mark Neuberger Comments on New Florida Immigration Legislation

17 May 2023 TechTarget News

Foley & Lardner LLP Of Counsel Mark Neuberger is quoted in the TechTarget article, “Florida immigration law creates problems for HR, economy,” discussing the potential impact of new immigration legislation set to take effect in Florida on July 1.

The new legislation will require companies that employ 25 or more workers to use E-Verify, the federal government’s electronic system that confirms if an employee is authorized to work in the U.S.

Neuberger said that effect of the change on the labor market “all depends on how aggressively this is enforced.”

He noted that while some state’s issue driver’s licenses to undocumented workers, Florida’s new law will not recognize their validity. For an employer, this could mean an employee who drives for them might no longer have a valid license for the state of Florida, Neuberger explained.
