Overview

Sandy Ma is a patent agent with Foley & Lardner LLP. Her practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, patent landscape analysis, and due diligence matters in the areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. She is a member of the firm’s Chemical, Biotech & Pharmaceutical Practice.

Prior to joining Foley, Sandy was a patent agent at an AmLaw top 100 law firm in New York and San Diego.

Previously, she was a postdoctoral research associate at The Scripps Research Institute, where she developed new synthetic methodologies using palladium-catalyzed C-H activation.

Education

Sandy earned her doctorate degree in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology (Ph.D., 2011), where she worked on asymmetric copper-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond forming reactions and the application of such technology towards the total synthesis of complex natural products.

She also attended Stanford University for her undergraduate studies, where she double majored in chemistry and biological sciences (B.S., 2004).

Sandy is registered to practice as a patent agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
