Foley’s Shanghai team recently provided a briefing on intellectual property law in China for President Bush’s International Trade Advisory Board. Catherine Sun and other members of the Foley team also hosted a dinner for clients and visiting members of the President’s Advisory Committee on Trade and Policy Negotiation (ACTPN), who were appointed by the President to help formulate U.S. trade policy. The U.S. delegation visited Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai on a fact-finding mission to better understand the dynamics of the trade relationship between the United States and China. Additionally, the group met with senior Chinese leaders, including the head of the People’s Bank of China, and toured U.S. operations in the country, including Intel.
ACTPN members on the trip included former Michigan Governor John Engler, now President of the National Association of Manufacturers; Jocky President Ed Emma; Manitowoc Senior Vice President Al Bernard; and former U.S. Congressman and current Foley Public Affairs Advisor Scott Klug. Other dinner attendees included members of the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai, staff from the United States Trade Representatives office, and senior advisors from the National Association of Manufacturers.
Mr. Engler praised the Shanghai team’s briefing, noting that it “really helped us put some of our other meetings in context. Catherine did a great job, and it was a wonderful dinner.”
