Initiative to Benefit Hunger Task Force Extended Through the Playoffs.
Foley announced today that its partners, associates and staff will add an estimated $10,000 to its regular-season donation in excess of $125,000 to the Hunger Task Force through the law firm’s K’s for a Cause partnership with the Milwaukee Brewers. A check presentation to the Hunger Task Force took place prior to the Brewers’ game against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Miller Park.
As the Brewers’ officially clinched a post-season berth, Foley has committed to extending the K’s for a Cause program through the playoffs, adding to the Hunger Task Force’s largest monetary donation of the year. In addition to a per-strikeout commitment, Foley will raise additional dollars for the Hunger Task Force through other activities such as ticket auctions and earned “dress down days.”
“The Brewers’ success on the field has energized the city of Milwaukee and fans around the state. We’re excited to be able to celebrate that success in a way that benefits the Hunger Task Force,” said Foley partner Mary K. Braza, chair of Foley’s Sports Industry team and K’s for a Cause committee member. “We’re thrilled that the Brewers have made it into the post-season and pleased to be increasing our donation to our community as a result.”
K’s for a Cause is a four-year partnership between Foley and the Brewers that began in March and will benefit a different local charity each year. Each year, Foley partners, associates and staff will donate an amount to the designated charitable partner for every regular-season strikeout recorded by a Brewers’ pitcher at Miller Park. During each home game, strikeouts are highlighted on a K’s for a Cause strikeout meter in right field. Upon clinching a wild-card berth, Foley chose to extend the promotion into the post-season.
This year, Brewers pitcher Eric Gagne matched Foley’s contribution with an additional $25 per strikeout. Gagne’s donation is being made to Brewers Charities, the official charity of the Milwaukee Brewers, with an earmark for the Hunger Task Force.
“Major League Baseball encourages its teams and players to provide support to a variety of nonprofit and charitable organizations in their respective communities. Partnerships like those between the Milwaukee Brewers and Foley are a great example of how a vital community agency like the Hunger Task Force can benefit,” said Major League Baseball Commissioner Alan H. (Bud) Selig.
For more than 30 years, the Hunger Task Force has been promoting socially sound policies aimed at ending hunger in the community. It was founded in 1974 and serves a dual mission of advocating for hunger relief programs and operating a food bank to distribute free food to local charities that feed the hungry. Last year, the Hunger Task Force collected and distributed
6.6 million pounds of food to 140 programs serving families in the greater Milwaukee community. Foley has worked with Hunger Task Force for the past 11 years.
“Foley has always been a strong supporter of the Hunger Task Force, and we’re very pleased they chose to direct this year’s funding from K’s for a Cause to our organization. This funding will go a long way toward providing food to those in need,” said Hunger Task Force Executive Director Sherrie Tussler.
