Foley announced that James C. Chapman, partner in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, has been named one of Daily Journal’s 2011 Top 25 Clean Tech Lawyers in California. This inaugural recognition honors 25 attorneys who have made extraordinary achievement in helping to guide companies through the financing or regulatory process of bringing clean technology solutions to the market.
Chapman has been involved in more than 200 mergers, acquisitions and financing transactions involving a wide range of companies, including those that focus on clean energy, green building solutions, electric vehicles, energy storage, water purification and other clean technologies. Additionally, he served as legal counsel to, and a participant in, the China Greentech Initiative, a groundbreaking effort to define the clean technology industry in China. The effort culminated with the release of a comprehensive report, which reflects an open source collaboration of more than 80 of the world’s leading technology companies, services firms, entrepreneurs, investors, NGOs and policy advisors. The final text examines 125 existing and emerging clean technology solutions across seven sectors to provide a view of each solution’s potential environmental impact and commercialization opportunity.
Chapman was recently elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Association for Corporate Growth Silicon Valley (ACG), a global association for professionals involved in corporate growth, corporate development, and mergers and acquisitions for mid- to large-sized companies, including a number of companies in the clean technology sector. He also serves as Chair of the Board of Directors Emeritus of the Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE), which provides resources to help Northern California entrepreneurs build successful businesses across a variety of technology driven industries, including clean technology.
