Carrie Hoffman Discusses Legal Protection for Breast-Feeding Moms with NBC’s Today

Gardere Labor and Employment Partner Carrie B. Hoffman discussed the new federal mandate for employers to provide women with breaks and a place to breast feed with NBC’s Today. Although the rules haven’t been finalized, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour division’s enforcers are going after employers who don’t make accommodations for working moms.
“It’s been the law for a while, and they don’t have to have the final regulations to be able to enforce it,” Ms. Hoffman said. The new law, she continued, is hardest for smaller firms to comply with, and for retailers in particular where space is at a premium.
