Texas Lawyer showcased Gardere Partner Rachel Powitzky Steely on its 2014 list of "Winning Women," which recognizes the state's top female trial and appellate lawyers who have a track record of success in high-stakes cases with national or statewide impact. In its feature, Texas Lawyer compared Ms. Steely's legal practice to the role of a firefighter, stating that her client's employment law emergencies are handled "right then."
"I like her because she's very client-centric," said Gardere Partner Geoffrey H. Bracken, co-chair of the Firm's litigation department. "She kind of does it all."
Ed Jacob, president and chief operating officer of Houston's Independence Contract Drilling, has brought Ms. Steely along as outside counsel for the last three drilling companies he's headed. "Her track record proves it for me," Mr. Jacob said. "That's why with every company I've been to, I've brought Rachel with me."
