Foley & Lardner LLP is pleased to announce that David Sanders, member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and co-chair of the Transactional & Securities Practice in Washington, D.C., has been recognized as an influential diversity advocate on the Lawyers of Color 2015 Power List. This recognition, now in its fourth year, highlights the nation’s most influential minority attorneys and non-minority diversity advocates. This is the third consecutive year a Foley attorney has been recognized by Lawyers of Color, and Sanders’ second time as an honoree.
At Foley, Sanders leads the firm’s nationwide diversity recruiting efforts at law schools, including helping to establish many of the firm’s current mentoring, training and development practices for summer associates. He’s also on Foley’s Diversity Fellowship Program Committee, which selects law students for and awards fellowships to second-year JD students who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and broader community.
Sanders, a Georgetown Law graduate, has for the last several years provided the opening address at the Georgetown Black Law Students Association’s annual Bootcamp for first year law students. In addition, Sanders works with Georgetown law students in the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Practicum to counsel social entrepreneurs focused on underserved communities and non-profit organizations in the Washington metropolitan area.
“We are very pleased to have David named to this exceptional list,” said Eileen Ridley, Foley’s chief diversity officer. “His recognition is representative of Foley’s commitment to recruiting, retaining and promoting diverse attorneys, which results in a diversity of perspectives that benefits the firm, our clients and the communities in which we serve.”
The Power List is comprised of in-house counsel, government attorneys and law firm associates and partners who were selected based on nomination submissions and legal industry research. Honorees will be profiled in Lawyers of Color’s 2015 Power Issue and recognized at a March 18th reception at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Washington, D.C.
