The article covered the news about an annual deferred payment deal between the New York Mets and former baseball player Bobby Bonilla. Raij was quoted saying, “The athletes that are willing to defer compensation view it as insurance to protect them when they no longer are playing and earning a regular salary. In addition, as tax rates change, some would argue they can defer tax payments, creating some possible efficiencies.”
