Partner Rhonda Reed Weiner spoke with Inside Counsel about the Houston’s First Court of Appeals’ refusal to hear a $6.4 billion lawsuit against TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Co. over an alleged breach of contract with the government of the Republic of Togo.
Brenham Oil & Gas Inc. argued that the lawsuit should be tried in Harris County, Texas since it is based in Kemah, Texas and TGS has a main office in Houston. The court disagreed and dismissed the suit because the Republic of Togo is able to provide a suitable forum to settle the allegations.
“This was an important win. If it had gone forward in the United States, it would have been a very unfair lawsuit,” said Ms. Weiner. “This would have been a very large case for damage models if it had gone forward.”
TGS is represented by Gardere Partners Rhonda Weiner and Peter Scaff. The full article can be accessed here.
