Grigorian Discusses New Government Provisions for Connected Cars
Partner Chris Grigorian was quoted in a Wards Auto article, “USDOT Lightens Autonomous-Vehicles Guidelines,” covering how U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao’s new federal autonomous-vehicle guidelines will benefit the industry. The new guidelines will give automakers and suppliers permission to test autonomous cars and other systems on open roads without obtaining regulatory permission. They also clarify how federal and state bodies are involved with governing this growing industry.
“These provisions provide welcome clarification of the roles of federal and state governments in the regulation of automated vehicles,” said Grigorian. “(They) will facilitate larger-scale deployment of automated vehicles across a variety of real-world driving environments and conditions. This is critical not only for ensuring continuous improvement of these technologies, but also for fostering consumer acceptance.”
