Fredericksen Interviewed on CBS Evening News About Roger Stone Sentencing Reduction Request
Partner Scott Fredericksen was interviewed on CBS Evening News about whether a decision by the Department of Justice to reject the sentencing recommendation of federal prosecutors was an abuse of power. Federal prosecutors originally had asked the judge to sentence Stone, a friend of Donald Trump, to seven- to- nine years in prison for charges including lying under oath and obstruction of a congressional investigation. The Justice Department then called the request extreme and excessive. The request followed a tweet from President Donald Trump condemning the sentencing recommendation.
“It’s stunning,” Fredericksen told CBS News of the Justice Department’s actions. “A fundamental rule of the Department of Justice is not to interfere politically with criminal prosecutions, especially on behalf of the President.”
