Byron McLain Receives ‘Litigator of the Week’ Shout Out
Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Byron McLain received a shout out in The Am Law Litigation Daily column, “Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout Outs,” for his victory on behalf of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to return Bruce’s Beach to the heirs of the Bruce family. Bruce’s Beach is a historically Black-owned resort in the City of Manhattan Beach that was condemned in the 1920s in an act the state legislature has since found was racially discriminatory.
A County resident petitioned for a writ of mandate to block the transfer of the property but McLain, serving as the County’s lead counsel, successfully argued that returning the property to the Bruce family is not an improper gift in violation of the California Constitution and the Los Angeles County Superior Court denied the resident’s petition.
