Thomas Ferrante Assesses PHTI Report, Digital Health Industry
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Thomas Ferrante is quoted in the Inside Health Policy article, “PHTI Report Leaves Bruises On Health Tech Amid Reimbursement Push,” offering insight on a recent report assessing digital health care solutions.
Ferrante, who is vice-chair of Foley’ Health Care Practice Group, noted the poor timing of the report for the telehealth and digital health policy industry in general, which is facing a cliff of Medicare coverage at the end of 2024.
“This is now a new bargaining or negotiation chip that can be used as a tool to push back against digital health expansion,” he said.
Ferrante explained if a payer needs “to have a justification for a cost-cutting measure or to not renew a contract, this study could be used,” noting that while he does not think the report will have much of an impact on Medicare reimbursement policy, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission will likely look at the report.
“Just because, again, these eight companies didn’t pass with flying colors on this particular report doesn’t mean you give up on the industry,” Ferrante added.
