Pearson Quoted on Debut of Cameras in Seventh Circuit

Senior Counsel Eric Pearson was quoted in an article in The Indiana Lawyer, “Cameras in court: 7th Circuit ushers in oral arguments on video,” about the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to allow videotaping of oral arguments.
Pearson said the court has the ability to allow attorneys to either call or videoconference if an unforeseen event keeps them from appearing in person. He told the story of one lawyer who argued his case over his cellphone from the side of the road after being involved in a traffic accident.
He also suggested that the presence of cameras would have little effect on oral arguments, saying a successful appellate appearance will still have to include having a good dialogue with the judges and answering all their questions.
