On July 9, President Biden recently issued his Executive Order on Promoting Competition in the American Economy. Among the more than 70 initiatives identified in the executive order is a direction to the Federal Trade Commission to review what may be done to limit the use of noncompete agreements and eliminate restrictive occupational licensing requirements. The president identifies both practices as making it more difficult for American workers to bargain for better wages and improved working conditions, and as unduly restricting workers of color.
