Partner Mark Neuberger was quoted in a Bloomberg article published on July 1, 2014, titled “Record Unanimity on Votes Masks U.S. High Court Divisions.” The article analyzed the latest U.S. Supreme Court term in which a majority of rulings on issues such as presidential appointments, mobile-phone privacy, abortion protests, congressional power and shareholder lawsuits were unanimous, setting a modern record for consensus. Regarding the court’s decision that raised doubts about a 1977 ruling that said public-sector employees can be compelled to pay for union representation, Neuberger was quoted saying, “What should have every union officer grabbing for a bottle of antacids is the thought process revealed by the majority.”
