Ann Marie Uetz Discusses Challenges for EV Infrastructure Manufacturers in Federal Infrastructure Plan

28 February 2023 Sustainable Views News

Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Ann Marie Uetz is quoted in the Sustainable Views article, “US charges up its highways for an electric future,” discussing the challenges electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment manufacturers are facing as they seek compliance with the requirements of the Build America, Buy America Act, the standards of which mandate that the majority of EV charging equipment be manufactured domestically by 2024.

Uetz estimates that only a “limited number of charging providers are well-positioned to comply with the Buy America requirements in the near term.”

She explained that the requirements for federally funded chargers “could restrain the pace of rollouts due to inflationary pressures and limited domestic production for certain materials,” adding that other challenges include capacity constraints on the electricity grid and permitting processes.
