January 16, 2017
Tech Life Magazine and The Dallas Examiner recently highlighted the 2017 Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition in Dallas. Sierra Jones, an 11-year-old from Charles Rice Learning Center, captured first place in the 25th annual competition.
Eight fourth- and fifth-grade students competed in the finals event and presented original speeches answering the question, “If Dr. King were alive today, what would he say about Muhammad Ali’s contribution to society?”
“If I had to take a line from [Ali], I would say, ‘float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,’” said Ms. Jones, speaking as Dr. King. “I will be great because of a man like Muhammad Ali.”
