Foley & Lardner LLP partner David Simon is quoted in the SAP article, “Manage Social Factors Like Other Governance Risks,” offering insight on the heightened expectations businesses are facing to prioritize the social factors that affect supply chain operations.
“Regulations are accelerating, and due diligence and disclosure are the main themes,” Simon said.
“There are fairly clear lines around forced labor and child labor,” Simon explained. “However, it gets a lot fuzzier with respect to things like working conditions, reasonable wages, unionization, and freedom of speech for workers.”
“Supply chains are long,” Simon added. “How far back does your obligation go? Everybody is wrestling with this.”
