Crain’s Chicago Business
Partner Jonathan Israel was quoted in a Crain’s Chicago Business article published on March 27, 2014, titled, “Northwestern Football Union Ruling: What Happens Next?” The article discusses a ruling by the Chicago regional director of the National Labor Relations Board that Northwestern University football players were employees of the school. Israel explained how universities may consider adding a major in football, basketball or general athletics as a result of the ruling’s determination that there was no academic value to their athletic pursuits, saying, “I could see how someone focused on changing the facts on the ground (could) create an academic concept around sports.”
