On October 15, 2007, Foley partner Patricia Lane is quoted in “Handicapping the Chances of a Sallie Mae Settlement” on The Wall Street Journal deal blog. Lane discusses some of the pros and cons involved in reaching a settlement in the case between Sallie Mae and its buyers, led by J. C. Flowers & Co. As a pro, Lane mentions that settling will accommodate another buyer and allow companies to move on. On the con side, Lane mentions that the burden of proof is on the buyer and that there are a great deal of emotions involved in the case.
