Partner Andrew Baum was quoted in article published in Advertising Age on April 22, 2014, titled “Supreme Court Justices Worry About Implications of Shutting Down Aereo.” The article examined the U.S. Supreme Court’s oral arguments in hearing the television broadcasters’ appeal to shut down Aereo, a technology company that allows subscribers to view live and time-shifted streams of over-the-air television on Internet-connected devices. The article highlighted the justices apprehension about the implications a decision could have on cloud computing. Baum said the broadcasters’ argument, if taken to the full extent, could define cloud storage services as a kind of public performance and make them liable for copyrighted material that consumers store there.
