Cliff Risman Featured on Hospitality Trends – Transactions at 'almost historic levels'
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Cliff Risman is featured in the Law360 Q&A, “Foley Hospitality Leader Talks Deals In Economic Uncertainty.”
Noting the general market uncertainty, Risman also pointed to the flurry of deal work his team is handling.
“There is so much general market uncertainty,” he explained. “Call that fear — economic fear, fear of a recession. I just think there’s a lot of uncertainty as to where valuations are going, deal flow, ability to finance. But it’s very strange, because you see that and you hear that, yet our group, for example, is busy at almost historic levels.”
Risman highlighted several issues the hospitality sector is confronting at the moment, including uncertainty in the capital markets, tariffs, continuing pressure on labor and insurance costs, and enhanced competition among brands and management companies for deals.
Asked how clients are responding to shifts in the economy, Risman commented, “I think the things you just described, the trade war, the Fed, recession, they all work in the background.”
“But the practical reality is, if there’s money available at a reasonable cost, developers will develop,” he added.
Risman’s commentary also appeared in the Law360 article, “Hotel Sector Gauges Headwinds as Busy Season Begins.”
