Jennifer Walsh, a public affairs director, was quoted in a Law360 article, “Health Care Policy to Watch in 2018,” about the political implications of health care reform and other health care policies in the new year.
Walsh told Law360 that she didn’t expect the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to take any actions to encourage ACA signups, but believes the Republicans will pursue some of the same goals of the ACA repeal such as phasing out the law’s Medicaid expansion and block-granting Medicaid funds. “They’re going to try to move on to other, broader, Medicare and Medicaid entitlement reform, and probably wrap a lot of what they tried to do with Medicaid in repeal-replace into that discussion,” Walsh said.
She noted that is a a risky political move, especially in an election year, and especially when the stated purpose would be financing lower taxes for corporations and the wealthy. “It’s crazy,” Walsh said, “because the Democrats would love nothing more than for them to try to go after not just Medicaid but Medicare.”
