Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Christopher Ward was quoted in a Law360 Pulse article titled “How To Create Work-Life Balance As A Busy Litigator,” which discusses the strategies successful litigators turn to in efforts to achieve work-life balance while managing client demands.

The article covers a handful of strategies for maintaining a balance, including the importance of ceding control. Ward shared his perspective on letting go and trusting his colleagues, explaining that great teams include not only smart and talented people but people who know one another’s preferences, values and personality quirks, so they can be well-positioned to lend a hand. He added, “when we connect as humans, we become much better teammates, and that enhanced level of teamwork makes it much easier for me to ‘let go’ and stay true to my own boundaries.”

Ward went on to highlight another key factor in creating work-life balance: learning to set and communicate boundaries. “The first [key for me] was giving myself permission to set some boundaries and be OK with the idea that I am truly permitted to take some time off, let clients know that I plan to do so, and give them a connection to a team member who can help out in my absence,” he said.
