Stephen Sandover is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a former criminal prosecutor and now represents clients in matters arising from government, regulatory, and internal corporate investigations. Stephen is a member of the firm’s Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice.

Stephen has represented multinational financial services firms, accounting firms, and Fortune 500 companies in investigations and inquiries brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, State Attorney General Offices, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the National Futures Association, and the International Stock Exchange, amongst various other government agencies and regulators.

Stephen regularly conducts internal investigations on behalf of clients facing allegations of securities fraud, and other regulatory and compliance breaches. He has experience with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and has represented an international medical device manufacturer in connection with its acquisition by a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical and medical device company involving a global anticorruption review.

Stephen’s litigation practice has also focused on defending corporations in toxic tort, products liability, and environmental cases at state and federal level. He has represented a Fortune 15 financial institution in litigation before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York related to claims brought by off-site workers alleging injuries from their work in buildings after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He has routinely represented clients in depositions and has successfully represented a client seeking political asylum in the United States.

Stephen has also worked with the Access to Justice Program in Brooklyn, New York, for which he received an award from the New York State Courts for his outstanding pro bono service. Stephen formerly worked with the government in Australia and served as a State Prosecutor for the Director of Public Prosecutions for the State of Western Australia. During that time, he worked on a wide variety of prosecutions including homicides, fraud, organized crimes, gang crimes, robberies, violent crimes, and other major felonies.
