10 August 2007
Foley hosted a Web conference called “The New Sheriff in Town: The New Federal Lobbying Disclosure Act and Permanent New Congressional Ethics Rules” on August 10, 2007. Washington, D.C. Partners Cleta Mitchell and Theodore H. (Ted) Bornstein provided an overview of the new ethics and lobbying laws adopted by Congress within the last week, including:
- Changes to the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995: lobbying registration and disclosure rules
- New required filings by each registered lobbyist (separate from a firm’s client filings)
- Final House and Senate ethics rules
- Changes to the Foreign Agents Registration Act
Thoughts on the practical impact of dealing with Washington within the context of these rule changes
