Foley announced today that Mark S. Mandel has joined the firm as partner in the Litigation Department and Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice in the New York office.
Mandel has more than 20 years of experience in complex securities litigation and enforcement matters. He has represented numerous investment banks, corporations, investment advisors, hedge funds, and directors and officers in high-profile matters, from investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Justice, state attorneys general and self-regulatory organizations to national securities class actions.
“Mark’s wealth of experience with major securities-related litigation and proven track record in obtaining favorable results aligns well with the high-level of service our department provides to clients surrounding these high-stakes matters,” said Michael J. Tuteur, chair of the Litigation Department at Foley. “He arrives with a deep understanding and specialty knowledge of the securities industry, which broadens our capabilities in complex litigation matters.”
Mandel joined Foley from the New York office of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP. Earlier in his career, he served as chief of the New York office of the SEC’s Division of Broker-Dealer Enforcement. Mandel has been regularly involved in significant securities industry cases throughout his career, with recent favorable results that include obtaining a no-enforcement action result on behalf of a major financial institution in the investigations involving use of brokerage firm “squawk boxes” and securing a dismissal with prejudice for a major international bank in $140 million securities fraud suit.
“Foley’s New York office was founded on the strength of its highly regarded litigation practice, and we are thrilled to add Mark’s unique experience in the financial services industry as we continue to expand our litigation and corporate legal services,” said Peter N. Wang, managing partner of Foley’s New York office. “Mark’s comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory landscape, government investigations and securities compliance will strengthen the delivery of our customized services.”
“Foley’s exceptional and innovative client service model is an ideal environment as I continue to evolve my legal career,” stated Mandel. “Having spent time in both private and public roles allows me to take on client matters with the multi-dimensional perspective needed to generate the best possible legal outcome.”
