Gills, Valenti-Jordon Co-Author Article on Using Trade Secrets to Protect Company Recipes
Partner Jeanne Gills and associate Lisa Valenti-Jordon have co-authored an article for Intellectual Property Magazine, “Food for Thought,” that explores the use of trade secrets to protect company recipes in the digital age.
The article, appearing in the June issue of the magazine, discusses how companies too often focus on patentability while failing to protect their trade secrets, which costs U.S. companies an estimated $200 billion to $550 billion a year to trade secret theft. It also talks about how difficult protecting trade secrets has become, given technological innovations, the pervasive use of and access to smart devices, the ease and speed at which data can be downloaded, copied, and transferred, and increased employee mobility.
