Foley & Lardner LLP Partner David Rosen is quoted in the Modern Healthcare article, “Amoxicillin is in short supply amid rise in RSV Cases,” discussing the shortage of the popular antibiotic and offering guidance as to how providers and pharmacists should proceed.
Rosen suggests that they try contacting wholesalers and manufacturing companies directly to see if the amoxicillin can be sent directly to local pharmacies. He explained that depending on the specific circumstances, amoxicillin alternatives like ampicillin or certain medications from cephalosporins, a stronger class of antibiotics, might be an option.
“Everybody is used to using amoxicillin,” Rosen said. “It’s inexpensive and it’s well tolerated. That’s why people like it.” Rosen’s comments were also published in Crain’s Chicago Business.
