Natasha Allen Discusses Diversification of AI Research Talent Pool
Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Natasha Allen is quoted in the TechTarget article, “Federal report focuses on AI diversity and ethics,” discussing a new national task force formed to advance and democratize artificial intelligence research in the U.S, which recommends diversifying the talent pool.
Allen said that focusing on diversity at the student level also bolsters the workforce. “For many of my clients, in terms of finding the talent that can understand, develop [and] interpret the algorithms, it’s a very small population,” she explained. “So the more people you are educating, getting up to speed in terms of what is required to be an engineer in the AI sector — it just broadens the capability of, again, diversifying who is part of this ecosystem.”
Allen noted that the success of the new task force will come down to who’s on the ethics advisory board. “You have to make sure that those boards have people who have a variety of experiences. It has to be a living and breathing document. It can’t just be static,” she added.
