Vanessa Miller Discusses Supply Chain, Electric Vehicle Outlook in Podcast Appearance
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Vanessa Miller appeared on the SupplyChainBrain podcast episode, “Betting on Electric Vehicles: A Realistic Appraisal,” discussing the factors that will influence the future of electric vehicles.
Miller, who is chair of Foley’s Automotive team within the firm’s Manufacturing Sector, discusses the challenges before both government and manufacturers as they look to expand the industry, including labor availability, shortages of critical materials, rising freight costs, and the build-or-by decisions that manufacturers must make as they assemble the elements of a complete car.
“One of the biggest challenges that we face is deciding the right timing for betting on and launching the electrified programs, in that there are major capacity constraints right now across all manufacturing industries, and automotive is no different,” Miller said. “There are labor shortages, freight costs that are higher than ever before, and capacity constraints that companies are dealing with all the way from the OEM manufacturer level down through the supply chain.”
