Carrie Hoffman Offers Insight on Navigating Layoffs for Employers
Foley & Lardner LLP partner Carrie Hoffman is quoted in the Law360 article, “4 Tips To Manage Layoffs And Reduce Litigation Risk,” offering insight to employers on how to navigate the difficulties of layoffs.
Hoffman, discussing the importance of developing an objective approach to severance packages, said that even just the perception of unequal severance pay can be problematic because it may lead a worker to not sign the agreement and to look for other potential issues that could lead to claims.
“If we can articulate the basis…years of service, level, those kinds of things, I think all of that helps paint the picture that this is a fair process,” she explained, “as much as it stinks to be on the receiving end of the layoff notice.”
