Cody Carter engages with a wide range of intellectual property issues, from drafting patents at their outset to enforcing IP rights in court. He draws on his background in mechanical engineering and materials science to work with inventors in a wide range of mechanical and electromechanical fields. He has assisted clients in obtaining patent protection on inventions involving electric vehicle charging technology, resistive braking systems, intraluminal medical devices, control systems for construction, and agricultural equipment, among other subjects.

Cody utilizes his past experience working in the judiciary to zealously advocate for his clients and their intellectual property rights. Whether representing a patentee or defending against an asserted patent claim, Cody works collaboratively with his clients and colleagues to reach a swift resolution that maximizes his clients’ rights under the law.

Cody’s experience includes working as a law clerk to Chief Judge J. Rodney Gilstrap in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, as a judicial intern to Judge Alan D. Albright in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, and for Judge Jaclanel McFarland in the Harris County 133rd Civil District Court. In these roles, Cody assisted with trial preparations and claim construction hearings, reviewed motions, and researched legal issues for the court.

During law school, Cody worked alongside attorneys at Baylor Law’s Intellectual Property Law Clinic, assisting clients with various patent and trademark matters.
