Partner Aaron Tantleff was quoted in a Law360 article, “Construction Industry Can’t Ignore Growing Hacking Threats,” about whether the construction industry is prone to cybersecurity breaches.
“While construction companies do have sensitive and valuable information, they’re less likely to have a lot of it, while companies in other industries by comparison have a treasure trove of data,” Tantleff said.
He added, however, that “the way in which construction companies operate raises a unique set of cybersecurity problems. Physical security may provide a level of deterrence, but someone who’s committed to breaking in is going to do it, which is why these companies need to think beyond physical security. A lot of plans for buildings get filed publicly, but what doesn’t are plans for server rooms and other secure areas. If those plans get out, then the physical security is devalued and it makes it easier if someone decides to try to break in.”
